Today, I received a heavenly wink.
I am partial to these heavenly love notes peppered throughout my life or, on a smaller scale, my day.
My husband is one of my biggest heavenly winks.
Most of the time, these daily love kisses are not as great as “prince charming” marching into your life. They are not likely to show up in such a grandiose manner but rather, they usually flutter by softly and gently.
Heavenly winks are actually quite common IF (and that’s a big if) your heart is open to see them.
Let me explain further if I may and share some examples:
- In the morning, you think of a friend you have not heard from in a long time and by afternoon she calls you.
- On a dark day, you get an encouraging note in the mail.
- You are financially struggling and an anonymous person pays your electric bill.
Basically, heavenly winks are love notes.
I was on my Facebook page scrolling quickly through my wall minding my own business when a quote stopped me mid-scroll (my heavenly wink).
This is the quote:
Be weird, be random, be who you are, because you never know who would love the person you are inside.
~ C.S. Lewis
THAT saying was for me for two reasons:
- “Be who you are” is the message I harp on most of the time on this blog and in my life. Rock YOU is my motto.
- Deena has been telling me this very thing since I have been working with her.
Who is Deena you ask?
She is another heavenly wink.
A Winky Story
Deena and I have been acquaintances for a few years. Recently, she came alongside me in a different capacity: to help me with this blog.
Here is the rest of the story.
Like the rest of you, I had just said goodbye to 2017 and was looking ahead to the new year wondering what I was going to do with this blog and with my life. What was my “personal legend”* and was I walking toward it?
*Side note about the “personal legend” reference. You would have to be familiar with The Alchemist by Paul Coehlo to fully understand this quote. In short, personal legend means life mission.
On that early January day, I will admit I was tempted to do the “fleece thing.” The fleece thing is a Biblical reference which can be summarized thus: “should I do (blank) and please if the answer is “yes” make it rain today.” In truth, putting out a fleece is not exactly like this, and I am not inclined to follow this process, but you get the jest of it.
And while I didn’t exactly test the universe thus, I did get up in the morning and quickly internally whispered: “a sign would be great, thank you.”
My Answer: A Heavenly Wink
A few hours later, I messaged Deena – who is the author of a book – and asked her a question. A small online discussion ensued. She said she would go take a quick peek at the blog and return with her input later.
True to her word, she did come back a while later with her guidance. I was both surprised and encouraged by her opinion. I now had my answer and an awesome partner/sounding board.
She has been an amazing blessing to me.
When I read the C.S. Lewis quote, I felt as if I had Deena on my shoulder whispering to me her favorite message “be who you are.”
Or as I like to call them, heavenly winks.
I love such moments and I am grateful for them.
Sometimes heavenly winks – or kisses – come from a quote, a small gesture, a letter. In truth, they come from anything and via anyone but only to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
